UN calls for India, Pakistan dialogue to resolve differences

UNITED NATIONS, (MILLAT ONLINE):Amid increasing tensions between India and Pakistan over the worsening situation in Indian-held Kashmir, the United Nations has again urged the parties to resolve their differences through
dialogue.
“Obviously, we are following the situation there as closely, as we always do, and we would encourage dialogue between the parties to settle any outstanding differences,” the UN Secretary-General’s Spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in response to a question at the regular noon briefing on
Monday.
The spokesman was asked about the deteriorating situation in Indian-held Kashmir and the resulting tensions between India and Pakistan, pointing out that even former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan sign had squarely blamed his successor Narendra Modi for the deteriorating situation in the disputed region.
Singh, speaking at the Indian National Congress plenary session in New Delhi, said that India must recognize the “problems in Jammu and Kashmir” and ensure that these problems are “tackled and sorted out”.
Asked whether Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has lately spoken to the prime ministers of India and Pakistan, Spokesman Dujarric said, “Nothing to report to you at this time.”
