Demos in Pulwama against desecration of graveyard

ISLAMABAD, (APP): People staged forceful protests in Karimabad
area of Pulwama district, Indian occupied Kashmir against the desecration of a martyrs’ graveyard by unknown persons.
The residents of Karimabad saw vandalized epitaphs and tombstones of
scores of graves of martyrs at the Martyrs Graveyard on Friday morning. Locals said that it was handiwork of Indian forces, KMS reported.
Two Kashmiri youth were killed in gunfights with the forces’ personnel
in the past week and were laid to rest in this graveyard.
Local residents said that they were shocked to see vandalized
tombstones. “We came to this graveyard only to see wide-scale destruction
here. Tombstones and epitaphs on graves of mujahideen killed in the past many years were broken and dislodged,” Ghulam Nabi Gulistan, a member of local Auqaf committee, told media men.
“This vandalism is condemnable. Those who did this shameful act should
be hanged,” another Aquaf member said.
The protesters demanded action against the persons involved in the
desecration of the graveyard. “We demand stringent punishment to those who
desecrated our graveyard. The guilty should be arrested and punished. If our
demands were not fulfilled within ten days, we will go for complete strike in Pulwama town,” they said.
