Students, scouts to lead climate change awareness campaign

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Ministry of Climate Change will launch a large
scale awareness campaign to make public aware of the climate change and their effects on the environment.
An official of ministry said that students of universities, colleges,
schools, girls and boy scouts would be involved in the campaign.
He said that proposal was also under consideration to include subject
of climate change in curriculum to create awareness among the children.
Public education and outreach are vitally important to create broad
awareness about climate changes issue and its impacts.
The government, in collaboration with the private sector and
independently, is already working actively to raise awareness regarding the issues.
The ministry in collaboration with development partners, UN agencies
celebrated international environment days for awareness raising among masses.
Regarding the establishment of botanical gardens all over the country,
including one in Islamabad, he said that the building of Zoological Society of Pakistan (ZSP) had been completed as well as fencing posts had
also been erected on the land.
He said that the ministry was looking for partners to establish
National Botanical Garden at the ZSP on a public-private partnership basis.
To a question, he said that a Pakistan Climate Change Council was
being established.
He said that a policy draft had been shared with provinces and all
other stakeholders to tackle climate change issues according to international agreements.
