Pakistan advised to take full advantage of CPEC

PESHAWAR, (APP): Speakers at a two-day policy
dialogue, unanimously endorsed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor
(CPEC) project and called for taking its full advantage to meet
country’s economic challenges including energy crisis.
The speakers at “Energy Policy Dialogue in context with
China Pakistan Economic Corridor” said the project would be
a game-changer in finding solutions to energy challenges
through CPEC.
They said that the Center and Federating Units should
have to frame policies for sustainable solutions for the
energy crisis.
The two-day policy dialogue was organized by US
Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy, (USPCAS E)
University of Engineering and Technology, (UET) Peshawar.
Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak who
was chief guest on the occasion said that the Government of
KP fully supports CPEC and told that several deliberations
were held with the Federation to agree upon the share of KP
province under CPEC.
He expressed the resolve of KP Government to solve
the persistent energy crisis and urged the participants to
explore current challenges and enable academia, industry
and government to find solutions for the energy crisis.
The objective of this dialogue was to deliberate on
challenges and opportunities in CPEC for alternative energy
solutions, preparation of industries for energy efficient
solutions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa offered by CPEC and to explore
developing Public Private Partnerships.
The Chief Minister KPK Pervez Khattak, as chief guest
appreciated the efforts of USPCAS-E UET Peshawar and USAID
to organize policy level dialogues in the field of energy.
He informed the audience about the prospects of CPEC,
the provincial government’s policy and interaction with
the Federal Government.
Among prominent speakers included Senator Usman
Saifullah, Senator RukhsanaZuberi, Dr. Adeem Khan,
Member Pakistan Custom services and others.
Vice chancellor UET Peshawar Dr. Iftikhar Hussain
said that this event was organized at the right time where
various stakeholders of CPEC had gathered to deliberate on
policy issues.
He lauded the efforts of USPCAS-EUET Peshawar as a
USAID-funded initiative that brings together UET Peshawar,
National University of Science and Technology (NUST),
and Arizona State University USA to find sustainable
solutions to Pakistan’s energy related challenges.
USPCAS-E is helping to resolve Pakistan’s energy
crisis through applied research and developing specialized
human resource.
This support from USAID to hold dialogues in the field
of energy will enhance students’ capabilities and put them in
the leadership roles in the energy sector, adding, with Government
of KP’s support, the center will be a game changer in finding
solutions to energy challenges.
