Tokyo stocks close higher, lifted by weaker yen

TOKYO, (APP/AFP) – Tokyo stocks rose on Tuesday
as a weaker yen lifted exporters while investors focused on Japan’s plans for a sales tax hike.
The Nikkei 225 at the Tokyo Stock Exchange advanced 0.98 percent, or 166.96 points, to close at 17,234.98, while the broader Topix index of all
first-section shares was up 1.01 percent, or 13.79 points, at 1,379.80.
