ECP adjourns hearing of reference against PTI’s Aleem Khan

ISLAMABAD,(APP): The Election Commission of
Pakistan (ECP) on Monday adjourned the hearing of reference till
June 20, filed by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq
against PTI leader Aleem Khan seeking action against him under the
law on submitting fake affidavits regarding alleged rigging in NA-
122 bye-election.
A four-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner
(CEC) Justice (R) Raza Muhamamd Khan during the proceedings observed
that further proceedings and decision could not be announced as the matter was subjudice in the court.
On May 4, Lahore High Court Justice Ayesha A Malik had
suspended the proceedings before Election Commission of Pakistan
(ECP) against Aleem Khan of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf.
The court issued stay order on petition of Aleem Khan and
sought reply from the ECP.
According to the reference, Aleem Khan had submitted
affidavits claiming that around 2000 votes were transferred and
24,000 votes were registered in NA-122 before by-polls without
consultation of voters.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has demanded to take action against Aleem
Khan under the provisions of Pakistan Penal Code. According to the
rules of ECP if the allegations will prove against the PTI leader
then Aleem Khan can face three to five year imprisonment.
