Gilani, Mirwaiz, Yasin condemn police crackdown in IOK

ISLAMABAD, (APP): The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet
Conference, Syed Ali Gilani, and Hurriyet leaders, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and
Muhammad Yasin Malik in occupied Kashmir, have expressed serious concern over the arrest spree unleashed by Indian police across the territory.
Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a
joint statement issued in Srinagar strongly condemned the arrest of innocent people in Srinagar, Pampore, Kupwara, Islamabad and Sopore areas, Kashmir Media Service reported.
They said that the police crackdown in the holy month of Ramzan could
further disturb the situation in these towns.
The leaders said that the puppet administration had launched a massive
crackdown against the youth all over the Valley, with hundreds of young men
imprisoned in different police stations.
They specifically said that police officers of Shairbagh and Sadar
police stations were subjecting the arrested youth to custodial violence and
were using abusive language against them.
They said that harassment of the common people after the Pampore attack
had no legal or moral justification. Eight Indian troops were killed and
several others injured in the attack.
The leaders said that targeting of innocent and unarmed citizens
amounted to a war crime. They said that the police had become a private armed wing of pro-India politicians.
The top leaders demanded release of all illegally detained political
prisoners and youth before Eid.
