Indus, Kabul continue to run in low, medium flood

ISLAMABAD, (APP): The Federal Flood Commission (FFC)
on Monday said the River Indus was flowing in low flood in
Tarbela-Chashma Reach with rising trend, while the River Kabul
was in medium flood in Warsak-Nowshera Reach.
According to the daily FFC report, other main rivers including
Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej were flowing normal.
The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicated that
Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs were at elevations of 1511.08 feet and
1216.85 feet respectively, which are 38.92 feet & 25.15 feet below
their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and
1242.00 feet.
The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and
Mangla reservoirs is 9.970 MAF as compared to last year’s 9.098 MAF.
According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, Sunday’s
trough of Westerly Wave over Kashmir and adjoining areas had moved
away eastwards and a fresh Westerly Wave lay over northern
Afghanistan. Seasonal Low lay over northwestern Balochistan and
Sunday’s Monsoon Low over North Bay of Bengal lay over Jharkand
(India).
As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, mainly dry
weather is expected over most parts of the country during next
24 hours.
However, isolated thundershowers may occur over the upper
catchments of all major rivers including Kashmir, North and
Northeastern Punjab (Rawalpindi & Gujranwala Divisions),
D G Khan and Malakand divisions during the same period.
Scattered thunderstorm/rain of moderate intensity with one or
two heavy falls is also expected over upper parts of the country on
Wednesday.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority,
Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, torrential rain/cloud burst
hit Ursoon (Paitasun Gol) south-west of Chitral on July 2
evening, which resulted in flash floods in the stream located
near Pak-Afghan border.
As a result, a mosque, Pak Army check post and near-by houses
were reportedly washed away. Around 29 people lost their lives, four
injured and 19 houses were fully destroyed, besides 27 partially
damaged. Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Government of
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, District Administration and Pak Army are busy in
the relief and rescue operation.
Significant rainfall events reported by the Flood Forecasting
Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours include; Islamabad
(Airport = 44 mm, Zeropoint = 20 mm, Shamsabad = 14 mm, Bokra = 07
mm & Saidpur =05 mm), Sehrkakota = 36 mm, Garhidupatta = 34 mm,
Malamjabba = 32 mm, Palandri = 28 mm, Attock = 26 mm, Kallar = 20
mm, Shinkiari = 17 mm, Rawalakot = 14 mm, Muzaffarabad = 10 mm,
Balakot & Domel = 09 mm each, Marala = 08 mm, Bagrote, Oghi & Murree
= 07 mm each, Kotli, Hattian Bala & Hunza = 06 mm each and Talhatta
= 05 mm.
