Abid Sher presents compensation cheques to victims’ families

LAHORE, (APP): State Minister for Water and Power
Abid Sher Ali on Saturday gave a cheque of Rs 1 million each
to the legal heirs of Mohammad Azeem and Kanwal Butt who died
of electric shock when a live wire fell upon them in the Kot
Lakhpat area at Anum Road on July 22.
The cheques were presented on behalf of the Prime Minister.
The state minister also conveyed the feelings of Prime Minister
Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to the affected family members and told
them that PM was sorrowful over the loss of precious human
lives in the incident.
“The government will provide all possible support to
the family members of victims”, he added.
Abid Sher Ali also offered Fateha for the departed souls
and prayed that Almighty Allah may grant courage to the
bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss with
fortitude.
Later, talking to media, Abid Sher said that Prime
Minister was sorrowful over the incident and formed a committee
in this regard.
He said FIRs had been registered against the XEN and
SDO concerned who had also been suspended.
The State Minister said that survey was being carried out
which would help in determining that from which houses high
voltage cables were passing over and details in this regard
would be obtained till August 15. After survey, maintenance
and repair work would be started, he added.
He said that protection of life and property of massess
was the responsibility of the government.
To another query, he said that it was impossible to put
the electricity cables underground, adding that steps would
be taken on advance level for the maintenance work.
Responding to question on Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)
Chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, he said that in past they faced
failure and they would face the same in future.
“Yesterday a reference has been filed in the National
Assembly against Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen and a legal
process has been adopted”, he added
