Delhi court sends Prof Gilani to two days police custody

ISLAMABAD, (APP): A New Delhi court has remanded to two-day
police custody professor Syed Abdul Rehman Gilani, arrested in connection with an event held at Press Club of India in New Delhi on martyrdom anniversary of Muhammad Afzal Guru.
SAR Gilani was produced before the court of Magistrate Harvinder
Singh, where the police sought his custodial interrogation for two days. He was booked under sedition charges, KMS reported.
SAR Glani’s custody comes amid the raging row over the arrest of
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students’ Union President Kanhaiya Kumar over sedition charges in connection with the event.
SAR Gilani had spoken at the function held in Press Club of India to
commemorate the martyrdom anniversaries of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad
Maqbool Butt.
He was charged with sedition after Hindu extremists demanded action
against him. The participants in the function shouted slogans in favour of Afzal Guru who was illegally hanged to death in infamous India’s Tihar Jail Delhi and demanded justice for his family.
