Strong democratic institutions, key for prosperity of nation: Imran

ISLAMABAD, (APP): Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)
Imran Khan on Thursday said human development and strong democratic institutions were basic elements for progress and prosperity of any
nation.
Speaking on a Point of Order in the National Assembly, he said
Pakistan could not be made an Asian Tiger till strengthening
democratic institutions and developing human resource.
He alleged that foreign investment, country’s export and
remittance had witnessed downward trend. Cotton’s, which was a
cash crop of the country, production has decreased to 10 million
bales while Indian production has jumped to 40 million bales.
Criticizing, the Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) he said
that they have strong reservations over ECP as around 25 million
ballot papers were allegedly missing during general elections 2013.
Imran Khan said real democracy could not be ensured mere by
holding elections rather free, fair and transparent election was
necessary. He said the institutions would not be strengthened till
supremacy of the Constitution.
He said foreign investments could not be attracted without
eliminating corruption and ensuring political stability.
He said Parliament was an important democratic institution
and it was the responsibility of government to do legislation.
Criticism on any wrong-doing of the government was a democratic
right of the opposition, he added.
He said the Opposition parities across the world always
raised the issue if public money was wrongly utilized.
Imran Khan said there must be no political interference
in police department. The PTI’s government has fully empowered
police department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and completely restricted
political interference in it, ghe added.
Regarding Panama Papers, he said the Opposition framed Term
of References (ToRs) to probe Panama papers leaks but the government
raised objections over it and termed it unilateral.
He claimed that the Chief Justices of Pakistan (CJP) had also
rejected the government’s ToRs.
He said that he had offered himself for accountability despite
his name was not included in Panama leaks. The opposition has also
presented a bill in the Senate in this regard, he added.
He said he had already declared all his assets during press
conferences held in 2011 and 2012.
Imran Khan criticized the Speaker’s ruling on disqualification references which had been forwarded to the ECP.
He said there was no justification of sending his reference
to the ECP. He said the Speaker’s decision on references was
biased.
He announced that he would now not accept Sardar Ayaz
Sadiq as a custodian of the House due to his (Ayaz) biased
and partisan attitude.
