Experts identify eight archeological sites at Zone-IV, Islamabad so far

ISLAMABAD, Oct 29 (APP): Department of Archeology and Museums (DOAM) is successfully continuing the survey work of archeological sites at Zone-IV of federal capital to find potential sites for documentation, excavation and preservation. Talking to APP, Director Archeology, DOAM, Abdul Azeem said the team of archeological experts has so far identified eight archeological sites in Zone-IV of the capital and the survey is continuing in different areas. The experts have so far discovered historical monuments, worship places of Sikh community before partition, mosques of Mughal period, remains of Buddhist period and a memorial of British period wars. Abdul Azeem, who is head of the project, said Zone IV of Islamabad is a biggest zone and the archeological survey in this area is likely to be completed by the end of this year. He said the first-ever archeological survey in federal capital was initiated to find the potential sites for excavation, documentation and preservation, protecting the precious heritage. The team which is conducting archeological survey comprises over archeological experts, photographers, draftsmen and other necessary staff who are recording the details of the sites for documentation and finding potential sites for excavation. He said Assistant Directors, Mehmood Shah and Asadullah were also part of the team which is conducting the survey. The students of Hazara University and Quaid-i-Azam University are also accompany the team of experts during the survey work on sites.
