Nobel winner Alexievich urges release of Russia activist

MINSK, Nov 2, (APP/AFP) – Belarusian writer Svetlana Alexievich, last year’s Nobel Literature Prize winner, has signed a petition for the release of a Russian activist who says he has been tortured and threatened in prison. Opposition activist Ildar Dadin, 34, alleged in a letter to his wife published Tuesday that he has been regularly beaten and threatened with rape and murder in prison, where he is serving a two-and-a-half year sentence for staging solo anti-government protests.
