Strict measures to check livestock smuggling bearing fruit

ISLAMABAD, Feb 4 (APP): The enhanced patrolling between
posts and surprise check on frequented/un-frequented routes
have helped decrease smuggling of livestock.
Maximum smuggling routes to Afghanistan have been
blocked to strictly check cross border movement through
developing a 10-feet wide and 8 feet deep 453 kilometers
long ditch on border.
Listing steps taken by government to control said
smuggling during last three years, sources at Interior
Division on Saturday said these included cancellation of
all existing quotas of livestock issued to butchers of
border belt.
The sources said new quotas based on joint survey
carried out by all stakeholders to ascertain requirement
of beef/mutton for districts of border belt, have been
issued and are being implemented through joint efforts.
Efforts to smuggle about 3200 animals to Afghanistan
were foiled during 2015-16.
