Counter-terrorism / Combing Operation gears up in AJK

MIRPUR (AJK), Feb 20 (APP): As many as 400 suspects including
unlawful residents including un-registered Afghan nationals as well others belonging to FATA including North and South Waziristan Agencies as well as their local facilitators (buildings owners) were rounded up during last 24 hours in the continued search operation by the local law enforcement agencies in various parts of Mirpur district, police said.
“A total of 199 persons were arrested in 41 cases registered under
Rented premises Security Ordinance during the last two days”, Senior Superintendent of Police Mirpur Raja Irfan Salim told APP Monday evening.
The law enforcement agencies including police headed by the DSP city
Azhar Iqbal and officials of intelligence agencies conducted comprehensive combing operation in various parts of Mirpur city and parts of the district to hunt the illegal and non-registered Afghan immigrants as well as those belonging to FATA besides their local facilitators (owners of residential buildings who had rented out their buildings to such unlawful dwellers), the DSP City Raja Azhar Iqbal told APP Monday night.
Cases have been registered under foreign act and other relevant laws of
the land including Principal Rental Ordinance against all those arrested including dozens of the local facilitators in Mirpur city and Thothal area police stations and further investigations are in progress, the DSP said.
Authorities have already banned the entry and presence of the
un-registered Afghan nationals including the dubious and unscrupulous elements belonging to FATA and its other adjoining areas in AJK including Mirpur district.
The search / combing operation would continue to make the entire city
and the district clean of illegally-settled Afghan nationals besides others who, reportedly, had not got themselves registered with the local administration / nearest police station”, the sources said.
A high level Law and Order Conference was held here Monday reviewed
overall peace and order situation including the outcome of the coming operation launched under the National Action Plan in Mirpur Division.
The conference was attended by Inspector General of Police Azad Jammu
Kashmir Bashir Memon, Mirpur Division Commissioner Sardar Zaffar Mahmood, DIG Police Rashed Naeem, Deputy Commissioners of Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimbher, SSP Mirpur Irfan Salim as well as SPs of Bhimbher and Kotli and other officials of the law enforcement agencies.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across Azad Jammu & Kashmir since
the recent wave of bloody terrorism in various parts of the country.
Security at all the entry and exit points of AJK leading to and from
Pakistan has been tightened and those moving on all the routes were being thoroughly scanned and checked in order to maintain peace and order in the area.
