Football: Chiefs held by Pirates after penalty miss

JOHANNESBURG, March 5 (APP/AFP) – Kaizer Chiefs had a penalty saved and conceded an own goal when held 1-1 by Orlando Pirates Saturday in one
of the highest profile African club football derbies.
Zimbabwe captain Edward Katsande was foiled by the legs of Pirates
goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo when he tried to convert a harshly-awarded late
spot-kick.
Former Pirate Joseph Molangoane put Chiefs ahead with a tap-in after 16 minutes of an entertaining match at the 90,000-seat Soccer City stadium in Soweto.
But an own goal from Tsepo Masilela on 33 minutes when attempting to clear a shot from a tight angle restored equality in the South African Premiership clash.
It was the second league draw within seven days for Pirates since Swede Kjell Jonevret replaced Turk Muhsin Ertugral, who quit as coach of the fallen South African giants.
The result left both teams positioned where they started the day — Chiefs fourth and Pirates an unusually low 11th in the 16-club standings.
SuperSport United wasted a chance to replace Cape Town City as leaders when held 0-0 at home by bottom-half Ajax Cape Town.
A win would have taken the three-time former champions from Pretoria to the top on goal difference.
Cape Town have 38 points, Wits 37, SuperSport 36, Chiefs 35 and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns 33 with games in hand on all their rivals.
Zimbabwean Knox Mutizwa scored the goal that gave Golden Arrows a 1-0 home win over Maritzburg United in a mid-table clash.
