MCCI for building industrial park near city

MULTAN, Mar 6 (APP): President Multan Chamber of Commerce & industry
(MCCI), Khawaja Jalal uddin Romi suggested to build a nice industrial
park near the city to cater to the needs of business community of the
area.
He said the park should not be upto 30 kilometres (km) away from
the city because the existing industrial area is almost packed and
rates of the land were skyrocketing there.
The MCCI president was speaking to a group of economists comprising Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other officials of Pakistan Institute
of Development Economics (PIDE), ministry of planning development
and reforms here on Monday.
Romi informed that being the backward area, they needed clean
drinking water, hospitals and education facilities besides improved infrastructure.
He said that they were thankful to Pakistan and Chinese government
for CPEC project which would be milestone in the history of the country, adding that Chinese companies should initiate joint ventures with
business fraternity of South Punjab.
For alleviating poverty from South Punjab, he said that there
was dire need to create job openings. The MCCI president said that
M-4 section under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) should
not be considered only for improvement of infrastructural only.
Romi suggested that they were ready to invite all chambers of
south Punjab for the discussing their proposals with governments’ representatives at MCCI platform as much more can be explored for
M-4 section after deliberations.
The group of economist consisted of Pakistan Resident Mission, ADP,
Farzana Naushab, head of Trade Industry Division, Dr Ejaz Ghani, head of School of Public Policy, Dr Owais Khawaja and Dr Muslihuddin.
They listened to the issues and proposals of the MCCI member and sought
their views on potential of CPEC in generating new business opportunities for the region.
