`Ailing barkati not released despite court orders’

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT/APP): Family of illegally detained
Ummat-e-Islami leader, Sarjan Ahmad Wagay alias Sarjan Barkati,in
occupied Kashmir, has said that the puppet authorities are not
releasing him despite court orders to set him free.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Sarjan Barkati’s wife,
Afroza Akhtar, in an interview said that her husband was shifted
to Central Jail Srinagar from Imam Sahib police station in
Shopian.
She said that the High Court of the occupied territory had
quashed his detention under the black law, Public Safety Act
(PSA), in December last year and ordered his release. “However,
police after shifting him to Srinagar Central Jail from Jammu’s
Kot Bhalwal Jail kept him under detention in various police
stations in Shopian and Kulgam districts. Police are prolonging
his detention on one pretext or the other,” she said.
Shabroza Akhtar said that Barkati, according to police
dossier, had more than a dozen cases registered against him and
had got bail for almost all except one. “He has not been keeping
well off late but despite that he was again shifted to Central
jail Srinagar,” she added.
Shabroza Akhtar said that their two little kids often
inquired that when their father would be released. “They have been
eagerly waiting for their father since January but to no avail,”
she said. Police resorted to dilly dally tactics in providing
report of FIRs which in turn delayed the bail from court, she
added.
