Police attack on Journalists widely condemned in IoK

ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT/APP): Hurriyet leaders and parties and
journalists’ representative organizations in Indian occupied
Kashmir,have strongly condemned the attack by Indian police on
journalists at Hyderpora in Srinagar terming it the worst display
of Indian state terrorism.
According to kashmir Media Service, Several journalists were
injured after Indian police attacked them on Thursday when they
had reached Hyderpora for the coverage of a proposed press
conference by joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali
Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The spokesman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) in a
statement in Srinagar said that the incident pointed to the fact
that Kashmir had practically been converted into a police state.
He said that if journalists were subjected to such treatment
it could easily be understood as to what common people would be
going through on daily basis.
He said that the incident showed how difficult it was for
the journalists to carry out their professional duty on the
ground.
He added that the authorities were using brute force to put
pressure on journalists so that the truth did not come out before
the world.
The APHC spokesman termed the manhandling of the journalists
by the police as violation of democratic norms and human values
and said that it also exposed the tall claims of democracy and the
freedom of speech of the so-called rulers.
The spokesman of Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq
in a statement in Srinagar also condemned the assault on
journalists describing it the worst example of Indian state
terrorism in the occupied territory.
The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front spokesman in his
statement in Srinagar denounced the attack on journalist and
termed it frustration of the authorities.
Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson, Aasiya Andrabi in a
statement denouncing the police brutality said, “It once again
established the fact that Kashmir is a police state. The police
highhandedness is increasing with every passing day.”
On the other hand, the Kashmir Editors’ Guild in a statement
in Srinagar denouncing the police action took strong exception to
the misuse of power for muzzling the media.
