Tokyo shares gain on cheaper yen, Toshiba soars

TOKYO, (MILLAT/APP/AFP) – Tokyo stocks chalked up
gains Friday morning as a cheaper yen lifted exporters, while Toshiba soared on renewed optimism that the struggling conglomerate will be able to work through huge losses at its US nuclear unit.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index added 0.99 percent, or 189.87 points,
to 19,275.18 by the break, while the Topix index of all first-section issues
climbed 1.00 percent, or 15.32 points, at 1,545.73.
