Speakers call for effective mechanism for solid waste management

GILGIT, (MILLAT/APP): The speakers at a seminar here on Monday
underscored the need for effective mechanism and coordinated efforts for effective disposal and management of solid waste in Hunza district.
The Karakoram Area Development Organisation (KADO) in collaboration with
the district administration organised a consultative seminar on “best practices of solid waste management and way forward for District Hunza”.
The prime objective of the seminar was to discuss the prevailing
challenges of solid waste management and develop new innovative solutions for the management of solid waste in the district.
Assistant Commissioner Hunza, Sheryar Ahmad lauded the efforts of KADO
and vowed to make Hunza an exemplary district in terms of cleanliness.
Chief Executive Officer KADO, Kamal Uddin gave presentation on
background of KADO-HEC (Hunza Environmental committee) project, prevailing challenges and proposed solutions to overcome issues pertaining to solid waste management.
The environmental specialists who were invited from Urban Unit Lahore
shared their ideas about management of solid waste through recycling, better planning and landfill method.
Participants of the seminar also shared their ideas and concerns about
the solid waste issues.
Deputy Commissioner Hunza, Samiullah Farooq expressed his gratitude to
the guests from Lahore, KADO and community of Ganish for providing solid waste dumping area.
The seminar was attended by officials of the District Administration,
Bazaar Association and representatives of civil society.
