ISLAMABAD, (MILLAT ONLINE/APP): With the arrival of the summer
season, Vendors start selling ice-cream (Qulfi), Ice lollies on
the roads to grab the attention of children and other people
to beat the heat all over the country.
A report aired by a private news channel said, street vendors
were seen selling ice lollies, Ice creams (Qulfi) in front of
schools, colleges and streets to get their hands on the chilly
delights.
The stalls and carriages with the shinning bottles of bright
and colorful syrups are attractive enough to grasp the attention
of the people, especially the children, who consider it a must to
enjoy the cold sips of the flavored ice-lawless or have cold and
colorful drink.
Usma Khan, a Young ice lolly seller says, “I earn Rs1000 in
ten hours.” He said that usually his customers were school-going
children but during the summer season, even adults joined the
youngsters to relish the candy-flavoured ice.
Students were incredibly enthusiastic about the lolly, often
preferring it to its more expensive, conventional `sibling’, ice
cream. “I can easily afford ice cream but I prefer having ice
lollies,” said Hashim Usman, a student.
Sabahat Rao, said, “I love the wide range of flavored syrups
on the ice lollies. Ice melting in my mouth combined with the
syrupy flavors is the best part about having an ice lolly.”
When it came to the ice lolly, age was definitely no barrier.
Yasir Ahmed, a senior citizen said, “Although some people
may consider me too old for ice lollies and Qulfi, I still love to
eat them in summers. It’s not only a way to escape the heat, but
also it’s a reminder of my childhood days.
I used to fight with my siblings over lollies as we were
usually short on money and could not buy them every day, he added.
Asma Usman a mother, said, “I flatly refuse when my children
insist upon eating Qulfi or lollies on roads. I get them biscuits
and candy instead. I am not a health expert but I know for sure
that the dust on our roads is enough to make children sick.
According to the health experts the water used in such
beverages is mostly contaminated which could lead to the diseases
like diarrhoea, hepatitis A and E, typhoid and gastro while the
children are more vulnerable to catching such diseases in this
blistering season.
Children must not use unhygienic beverages, ice creams and
lollies being sold outside schools, Dr Yasmin Javed advised.
Doctors warned of the potential health risks associated with
consuming an ice lolly. “Bacteria do not survive in ice, but these
ice lolly sellers are not aware of appropriate hygiene conditions,
they mentioned.
She added that the syrups were made in unhygienic conditions
and people should think twice before risking their health the only
precaution in this regard, she claimed.
