Dutch Ambassador calls on Khalil Tahir Sandhu

LAHORE, May 28 (APP): Provincial Minister for Human
Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said
the Punjab government is employing all legal and
administrative steps in order to protect human rights in the
province.
He said this while talking to Dutch Ambassador in
Pakistan Ms Jeannette Seppen who met him at his office here
on Sunday.
With the promulgation of Woman Protection Bill, the
number of incidents of teasing, harassing, domestic torture
and raping the women had decreased, he added.
Tahir Sandhu told the ambassador that level of
awareness and sensitization towards human rights had
immensely increased throughout the world with the
passage of time.
The same was the situation in Punjab where media and
education, well supported by the government, through their
vibrant role, had also made people aware regarding their basic
rights, he added.
The minister said that effective strategy had been
evolved to make public aware of their human rights, eliminate
discrimination against religious minorities, promote peace,
harmony and mutual respect among society was the mission of
his department.
To achieve these goals, awareness campaigns worth million
of rupees were arranged not only through media but
universities, colleges, public and private institute and NGOs
also play their vital role in this regard.
The minister told the ambassador that in order to
effectively safeguard the human rights of citizens, a
provincial task force, well supported by Feed Back Dash Board
system, had been constituted in the province.
The ambassador thanked the minister for his detailed
briefing regarding human rights in Punjab and ensured him that
Neither Land government was ready to render full cooperation to
the Punjab government in all walks of human rights observation.
