MULTAN, July 26 (APP): Local police arrested twenty members of a
Panchayat in connection with their alleged role in a rape case, police official said.
On July 16, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by one Umer
Wada in Raja Pur area and on July 18, Ashfaq, the brother of rape
victim, raped the teenaged sister of accused Umar Wadda in revenge.
Family of rape victim had got registered a case against Omar Wada
with Violence against women Centre. The family of victim also moved police and an FIR was registered against Ashfaq with Muzaffarabad police station.
Muzaffarbad police came into action after receiving information of
Panchayt’s role in the matter and arrested the Panchayat head Ameen and several others.
SHO Muzffarabad Rashid Taheem said that police have registered case
against 27 Panchayat members and arrested 20 of them including main
accused Ameen. He said that police was conducitng raids to arrest rest
of the accused.
